Round
10

Alexandra Wilson
SUI 2090

GM Karel
Van der Weide NED 2446

Simon
Williams' girlfriend Alexandra has been turning heads
throughout the entire tournament but today he did likewise
for completely different reasons with his unusual rook
manoeuvre in his
game with Danny Gormally (left). The book line is 11...e6 and not 11...exf6? as played by
Williams. Result, after just 19 moves, 1-0.

Gary Quillan ENG

Patrick Bennett
ENG 2129

IM Stewart
Haslinger ENG 2423 and GM Colin McNab SCO 2433

Once the players
had settled down there was time for Dave Clayton and me to
take a stroll and enjoy the local
area. In the background, the famous neo-classical
architecture of St Georges Hall....

.....which will
be the venue for the British Championships in 2008.

GM McShane
arrives on time to play GM Sulskis

Nigel's amused
by someone or something but not the game. 'Chess has become
Fritzed out' - Short. Stephen Gordon played very
cleverly to force a perpetual in 26 moves. See Malcolm
Pein's Sept 15th
Telegraph column for details.

David Clayton
cracking one of Brett Lund's nuts! What?! See Steve Giddins
round 7 report where all is revealed.

Round
8
|

Round 8 starts
predictably enough. But at 15.45 the fire alarm
goes off, accidentally started by a workman.

Everyone vacates the building. A chance to chat
to friends or even your opponent and take in
some warm autumn sunshine.

Just another day at
the office for GM Short. The fire brigade give
the all clear and its back to the chess.

Just
time to pan right and take a snap of St. John's
Gardens in front of St. Georges Hall. Liverpool
does have some fabulous architecture.

IM Craig Hanley
glad to be back indoors.

Round 5

World Museum Liverpool
on a bright Sunday morning

The very picturesque St.
John's Gardens immediately adjacent to the World Museum which can just
be seen through the line of trees.

The Famous Doctor Duncan's
Real Ale Pub has become a focal point for players during the tournament.
It's just across the road from the gardens and a stones throw from the
Museum. Very handy!
