We are proud to announce the participation of Grandmasters Michael Adams and Nigel Short.

Michael Adams is England's highest ever rated player. His highest ranking was world number 4, achieved from October 2000 to October 2002 with a rating of 2755. He is currently number 13 in the world and the number one British chess player with a rating of 2735.

Notable have been his results in World Chess Championship tournaments. Several times a Candidate, he reached the semi-finals in 1997, 1999 and 2000 and at the 2004 FIDE Championship, he reached the final.

Nigel Short is one of England's greatest ever players, former World Championship Challenger and European Union Individual Champion 2006. His highest rating was 2712 in 2004.

He became a Grandmaster at age 19, and challenged for the World Championship against Garry Kasparov in London 1993. Still active and fiercely competitive, he continues to enjoy international success. Nigel is also a chess columnist, coach and commentator.

A small piece of history: They first met as boys 26 years ago and then again last year at the time of the UK China International for a memorable photoshoot. Read more of Mickey Adams and Gary Quillan's nostalgic 'rematch'... see below.

The picture below is of a very young Mickey Adams and Gary Quillan taken at the National Primary Schools Championship Finals in London 1982.

25 years on, at the UK v China match 2007, principal organiser Prof. David Robertson arranged for both players to recreate the photo and board position with the result below.

Amazingly they easily remembered the game and in a recent email to David Robertson, Mickey writes "I've found a lot of my old scoresheets so I am attaching the moves so you can see how accurate our reconstruction was! I think my endgame technique is a bit better now!"

And if Mickey and Gary are drawn against each other in some future event .......

September 7th - Participants total now at 138.
